Heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk has been launched after being detained at a Polish airport, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned.
A video posted on social media confirmed Usyk being led away in handcuffs by uniformed officers.
“I had a telephone name with Oleksandr Usyk when he was detained,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
“I’m outraged by this perspective towards our residents and our champions.
“I’ve instructed Ukrainian Overseas Minister Andrei Sibiha and Ukrainian Inside Minister Ihor Kremenko to right away make clear all the main points of the incident at Krakow Airport.
“As soon as I used to be knowledgeable that every part was OK, our champion was launched and nobody was detaining him anymore.”
WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Usyk is anticipated to journey to London this week to observe Daniel Dubois defend his IBF title towards Anthony Joshua at Wembley.
Alex Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, mentioned on Instagram that the incident was a “misunderstanding.”
It was unclear why Usyk was detained.
BBC Sport has contacted Usyk’s supervisor and promoter for remark.
Usyk has not competed since defeating Tyson Fury on Might 19 to change into boxing’s first undisputed four-belt heavyweight champion.
The Ukrainian vacated the IBF title in June after selecting to not face his necessary challenger and agreeing to a rematch with Fury scheduled for December 21.
Usyk can be the undisputed light-weight champion and is undefeated in 22 fights, profitable 14 brief distance fights.
