European Union lawmakers voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to re-elect conservative Maltese politician Roberta Messora as president of the European Parliament.
The 720-seat parliament held its first session in Strasbourg, France, with new MEPs in attendance, with Mesola successful a transparent majority of seats with 562 votes. Mesola, who belongs to the most important political group in parliament, will function parliamentary president for the following two and a half years.
